WCTA President Carol Mowen provided comments at the Washington County Board of Education meeting on August 1, 2023. Mowen highlighted the various types of supplies available at the WCTA TIA Teacher Closet and explained how the promise of Blueprint for Maryland’s Future could transform the teacher workday to provide more time to achieve the WCPS vision for all Washington County students.
School supplies are only part of the equation to ensure quality education for all students. Deciding how to implement the Blueprint legislation in a manner that provides for improving the school workday and school day to address the needs of students’ and teachers’ brains and bodies can disrupt the status quo and make meaningful changes. However, for this transformation to occur, WCPS will need the full funding and support of the local elected officials and communities it serves.
