Nominations Now Open for 2026 WCTA Elections

  1. WCTA will be running its 2026 election concurrently with the MSEA election via a separate electronic ballot.
  2. WCTA members running for MSEA State Delegate to the NEA RA must complete the MSEA nomination form by the November 21, 2025, deadline to be on the ballot. It is recommended that candidates run on both the regional delegate ballot and the at large statewide ballot to provide for more opportunities to win a state delegate seat.
  3. PROPOSED WCTA Election Timeline for candidates for the WCTA Board of Directors and local delegates to MSEA RA and NEA RA:

    Nominations Open: November 6, 2025

    Nominations Close: December 12, 2025

    Bios will be uploaded to the WCTA Elections Website by January 9, 2026.

    Election Window Opens:  January 26, 2026

    Election Window Closes: February 13, 2026


Nominations  for WCTA Board of Directors

This year, the following Board of Directors seats are on the ballot:

  • Treasurer
  • Elementary School Member-At-Large (2 seats)
  • Middle School Member-At-Large (1 seats)
  • High School Member-At-Large (1 seats)

QUALIFICATIONS OF NOMINEE:  Nominee shall be a member in good standing of WCTA, MSEA, and NEA and shall have been a member of the Washington County Teachers Association for the (2) two consecutive school years preceding nomination and election. 


Nominations for WCTA Delegates to the MSEA Representative Assembly and the NEA Representative Assembly 

QUALIFICATIONS OF NOMINEE: Nominee shall be a member in good standing of WCTA, MSEA, and NEA and shall have been a member of the Washington County Teachers Association for the two consecutive school years preceding nomination and election.  Delegates must fulfill all requirements included in WCTA By-Laws.

FUNDING: Delegate funding will be determined by the WCTA budget.  Delegates will receive one half of the stipend prior to the convention and one half after the convention, if the delegate has met the attendance requirement as set by the Elections Committee.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: The attendance requirement for MSEA and NEA delegates is a minimum of 75% attendance at all convention sessions.  Delegates should also make every reasonable effort to be seated with their delegation during the convention.

Article VIII, Section 3.a. of the MSEA Bylaws states, “Local affiliates of the Association shall be allotted delegate credentials on the basis of one (1) for each fifty (50) or major fraction thereof of Active Emeritus members of MSEA within the affiliate as of June 30 of the preceding membership year.” (Up to 28 local delegates. Funding is divided among the number of delegates attending.)

Article XI, Section 1.d of the WCTA Bylaws states, “The President shall serve as delegate and chairperson of the delegations to MSEA and NEA conventions…”  Locals are entitled to one delegate for each 150 members or major fraction thereof who is Active, Life, or Educational Support members of the NEA. (Up to 9 local NEA delegates. Funding is divided among the number of delegates attending.)


Paper forms for both delegates and Board seats are available from Building Reps during the nominations window. Forms can also be requested by contacting Jamie Barrett at the WCTA office.

Nominees shall be members in good standing of WCTA, MSEA, and NEA and have been a member of the Washington County Teachers Association for the (2) two consecutive school years preceding nomination and election.  Delegates must fulfill all requirements included in the WCTA By-Laws.  


NOMINATION PROCEDURES ~

  1. All nominations must include the consent of the person nominated.
  2. Nomination forms and completed biographical data information must be returned as noted on the nomination form. Nominations forms received after the deadline will be invalid.
  3. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to verify receipt of his/her nomination form.
  4. The order of candidates on the ballot shall be determined by random draw.

ELECTION RULES AND PROCEDURES ~

According to Article XIV, Section 2d., of the WCTA Bylaws, “A written notice shall be sent to all members explaining the adopted election procedures for local representatives to state and national association bodies.”

  1. A biographical data sheet for candidates will be distributed to the Reps and posted on the WCTA website.

  2. Ballots must be completed by the date noted.  

  3. No person shall be elected as an officer without receiving a majority of ballots cast (Article XIV-Elections, Section 1h.).

  4. In the case of a tie, a runoff election will be held for that office.

  5. In the event that no candidate receives a majority vote for a given office, a runoff election will be held for the two candidates receiving the higher number of votes for that office/position.

  6. The final election results will be published to the entire membership.

  7. All ballots will remain a matter of record, in the WCTA office, for a period of sixty (60) days following election.
